Unfortunately, it's common for people to forget about their diet in between visits to the doctor. Actually, there is a lot you can do to help your diabetic condition with sound and recommended dietary behavior. Many people today are watching the glycemic index of the foods they eat, and for diabetics this is of special importance. One diet that's often recommended for diabetics and anyone with high cholesterol is the TLC diet. As you can imagine, this particular diet works to decrease the amounts of foods that work to increase cholesterol levels. There are other associated lifestyle behavior changes that will help you, too. If you are overweight, then of course engaging in exercise and losing weight will help tremendously. The important thing is to decrease LDL, or bad cholesterol as much as possible. At the same time you want to raise levels of HDL, or good, cholesterol.

Your doctor will give you plenty of advice if you have diabetes, and this should always be your main source of help. Managing diabetes can be achieved thus allowing you to live a normal life. Diet is very important, though, as it can be the difference between having your symptoms improve or worsen. There are a lot of things to consider and pay attention to with the diabetic diet. You don't necessarily have to follow a single diet to the letter. As long as you can control your blood sugar level, you'll be doing fine.
