There is a link between obesity and excessive consumption of foods with a high GI rating. It's dangerous to be obese and diabetic. The serious risks that can be caused by excess weight can be more difficult to manage when you're diabetic.

Diabetics really need to be careful to avoid gaining weight. White, refined sugar is highly processed and essentially contains empty calories. This type of calorie is almost immediately converted into fat and contains no nutritional value. The only way to prevent that is to either burn the calories or not eat them in the first place.
